Skate Lessons

Location: Carbondale Skate Park

Whether you’ve never skated before or want a chance to perfect new tricks, join instructor, Chris Johnson, at the Carbondale Skate Park. Please see definitions to find the right class for you. Must have own skateboard. Helmets Required. All other safety gear highly recommended.

Summer Tennis for Kids

Start date: June 23, 2020 - End date: August 20, 2020

Time: 9-11am

Location: Darien Pickleball and Tennis Courts

Join us for summer tennis! Due to current health directives group sizes are limited to 8 participants and we will require all players to bring their own equipment. Registered participants will receive COVID-19 specific program guidelines. All programs will follow local, state, and CDC health protocols. Please email with any questions.

Junior Tennis (Ages 6-8)

This program is designed for younger players. We will focus on the fundamentals of the sport and utilize skill games to practice the basics. Players will focus on learning ground stokes, serves, and volleys along with being introduced to scoring and match play.

Time: 9-10 AM
Cost: $60/session
Dates: Session 1: June 23-July 9; Session 2: July 14-July 30; Session 3: August 4- August 20
Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays

Youth Tennis (Ages 9-13)

This program will start with stroke production drills involving ground strokes, serves, and volleys. Emphasis will be on practice rallies, skill games and introducing players to singles and doubles match play.

Time: 10-11 AM
Cost: $60/session
Dates: Session 1: June 23-July 9; Session 2: July 14-July 30; Session 3: August 4- August 20
Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays

Youth Private Tennis Lessons available (Ages 6-13)!

Must be purchased through Carbondale Recreation. Lessons are 1 hour in length.

Youth Hikes

The Town of Carbondale Recreation Department operates under a special use permit with the USDA Forest Service, White River National Forest and is an equal opportunity service provider and Employer.

Our hiking series takes participants to 4 incredible places right out our back door. Hike to great lakes, see incredible views, and explore an ice cave! Our hikes are also hands-on informational sessions where you will learn “Leave No Trace” practices of wilderness travel. A hiking equipment list is available at the front desk of the Carbondale Recreation & Community Center. Please note you must pick your date during registration for Avalanche Creek, Hunter Creek, and the Grottos.

Bonedale Bike Jam

A free ride contest at Carbondale’s North Face Bike Park. From striders to pros, and pump track time trails to best trick jam sessions, there’s fun for all!

Join the Carbondale Recreation Department as we explore the Wild West! We’ll enjoy lunch and antique shops on Main Street in Downtown. Then drive to the Museum of the West for exploration. Exhibits include: Native Americans, Spanish Exploration, antique firearms, uranium mine, and many more!

Easter Egg Hunt–CANCELLED

Join Carbondale Parks and Recreation for its Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Sopris Park. Please arrive promptly because the hunt only last a few minutes and starts at 10am sharp. And be sure to bring your own basket to collect the eggs. Participants will be divided up according to age. Registration for the Easter Basket Raffle will begin at 9:30am, and winners will be drawn following the hunt.

Where My Peeps At Scavenger Hunt–CANCELLED

Location: Sopris Park

We love to keep this race interesting and different. This year all teams will cover a different 2 mile course than last year. This course will be fun and challenging for all age levels. There will be 50 easy Peeps made out of chalk for the little ones to fine to add bonus points. There will be photos to recreate the photo with your team. This is challenging for all ages.

New this year we will have one Golden Peep that is a grand prize for a team to have first crack at the Give Away Table. As always we will have prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams, and the team with the Best Costume. All of this will be followed by a giveaway full of prizes donated by local businesses.
