Spring Into Fun Family Block Party–POSTPONED

Enjoy KidZone activities (bounce house, kid games, and arts & crafts) along with adoptables from Colorado Animal Rescue

100% of the proceeds benefit our local animal shelter, valley recreation, and youth arts programming.

Art Fun!

Start date: June 22, 2021 - End date: July 22, 2021

Carbondale Parks and Rec is partnering with Carbondale Arts to provide some ART FUN for kiddos!

This program will be held outside the Carbondale Recreation and Community Center in the covered patio area.  Please note that the June Session is in the morning and the July Session is in the afternoon.  Separate registrations required for each session.  Masks on at all times!

Please only register if your child is able to attend all classes in the session and is able to be on time. It is very disruptive to a small art class if a child is late.

Youth Hikes

The Town of Carbondale Recreation Department operates under a special use permit with the USDA Forest Service, White River National Forest and is an equal opportunity service provider and Employer.

Our hiking series is culminating with one final hike to Avalanche Creek Trail Our hikes are hands-on informational sessions where you will learn “Leave No Trace” practices of wilderness travel. A hiking equipment list is available at the front desk of the Carbondale Recreation & Community Center.

Skate Lessons

Whether you’ve never skated before or want a chance to perfect new tricks, join instructors, Chris Johnson and Shawn Frick, at the Carbondale Skate Park. Please see definitions to find the right class for you. Must have own skateboard. Helmets Required. All other safety gear highly recommended.

This program is designed to introduce kids to the sport. Emphasis will be placed on fun, participation, and the fundamental skills of throwing, catching and batting. Participants will be divided into teams for two big games at the end of the season!

Youth Tennis

Location: Darien Pickleball and Tennis Courts

Join us for some summer tennis!  All players must bring their own equipment. Registered participants will receive COVID-19 specific program guidelines. All programs will follow local, state, and CDC health protocols. Please email wtempest@carbondaleco.net with any questions.


Ages 6-9 years

This program is designed for younger players. We will focus on the fundamentals of the sport and utilize skill games to practice the basics. Players will focus on learning ground stokes, serves, and volleys along with being introduced to scoring and match play.

Dates: Session 1: June 1-17 ; Session 2: June 29-July 15; Session 3: July 27-August 12
Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays

Ages 10-14 years

This program will start with stroke production drills involving ground strokes, serves, and volleys. Emphasis will be on practice rallies, skill games and introducing players to singles and doubles match play.

Youth Baseball/Softball

Start date: May 31, 2021 - End date: July 30, 2021

Time: 4-7pm

Summer Baseball and Softball are back! Program begins the week of May 31 and will run through July! Based on registration numbers we will determine practice schedules along with game play with other towns.

Age groups are as follows:

  • Coach Pitch Baseball Ages 7 & 8
  • Girls softball Ages 8-10
  • Kid Pitch Baseball Ages 9 & 10
  • Girls Softball Ages 11 & 12
  • Baseball Ages 11-13 (13-year-olds cannot pitch)

Program fee is $90 and includes uniform for games.

For Coach Pitch and Kid Pitch, please sign up based on your availability as teams will be divided by Mon/Wed practices and games, and Tues/Thurs practices and games.  All other team schedules will be set the coaches so contact Will at the email above for more information.

Kids Pump Track Time Trials

Join us for kids’ pump track time trials with the Carbondale Parks and Recreation Department at Carbondale’s North Face Bike Park.
From Striders to Pedal Bikers we will have pump track time trials for different age groups.

Introduction to Gardening

Start date: May 18, 2021 - End date: September 14, 2021

Location: Demeter's Garden

Learn the basics of gardening with this hands-on garden series from CSU Extension!  Topics will cover everything you need to know from soils to insects to weeds and more.  All classes will be beginner-friendly and bilingual.  All ages!

Bike Rodeo

Date: May 17, 2021

Time: 4:00pm - 6:00 pm

Location: Carbondale Recreation Center

Bring your bike and helmet and give our bike obstacle course a try! The Bike Rodeo is a fun way for kids to learn basic bike safety and the “rules of the road” while navigating a fun obstacle course. Prizes will be awarded and we will also have bike mechanics from Aloha Mountain Cyclery on hand to show kids how to keep their bikes in tip-top shape.
ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST WEAR A HELMET AND HAVE A WAIVER SIGNED BY A PARENT!!
