Taekwondo

Martial Arts classes for children & adults. Improve your balance, strength, coordination, and flexibility. Integrate body, mind, and spirit using the Taekwondo tenets: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit. Sahn Taekwondo classes are taught by Nationally and Internationally certified instructors: Ms. Cedar Rose Guelberth, 3rd Dan, & Grand Master Richard Hodder, 9th Dan. Six-month pre-registration discounts available.

Drop-In Pickleball

The Carbondale Recreation Center offers drop-in pickleball during the winter months inside our basketball gymnasium. Three courts will be provided. First come first serve.

Women’s Intermediate Pickleball Ladder League

Start date: January 15, 2023 - End date: March 19, 2023

Time: 7:15pm-9:00pm

Women’s Intermediate Pickleball Ladder League – 10-week series
Level of play: Intermediate
Goals for the participants: Consistently serve and return deep, regularly perform drop shots, sustain dink rallies, and demonstrate various levels of strategies of the game of pickleball. Participants should have a good understanding of the rules and a fair amount of experience playing the game.

Format:The first 2 weeks will be round robins which will result in your placement on the initial rungs of the ladder. During the remaining sessions, there should be lots of movement up and down on the ladder as scores of each individual player are accumulated and will determine who moves up or down on the rungs.

Note:There will be opportunities for drilling games and coaching before play.

Winter 2023 Advanced Pickleball Ladder League for Women

Start date: January 15, 2023 - End date: March 19, 2023

Time: 5-7pm

Location: Carbondale Recreation and Community Center

Women’s Advanced Pickleball Ladder League – 9-week series
Level of play: Advanced
Requirements: Must have fairly consistent drop shots, ability to sustain dink rallies, and demonstrate various levels of strategies of the game of pickleball.

Format: The first 2 weeks will be round robins which will result in your placement on the initial rungs of the ladder. During the remaining sessions, there should be lots of movement up and down on the ladder as scores of each individual player are accumulated and will determine who moves up or down on the rungs. Games will be to 11 (win by one) or 14 minutes. There will be some match point play to 15 as well.

Note: There may be additional opportunities for drilling and coaching before play.

Consensual Improv at TACAW

Date: February 10, 2023

Time: 5-10pm

Join Carbondale Parks and Rec for a night of laughter with Consensual Improv at TACAW.  We will depart from the Rec Center at 5pm and then do pickups at Sopris Lodge and Crystal Meadows.  Participants may dine at a Willits eatery of their choice (bring money for dinner), and then we will head to TACAW (ticket is included in fee, but bring money for drinks!).  Show time is 8-9:30pm.

Consensual Improv is the Roaring Fork Valley’s beloved, most famous, and sought-after improv comedy troupe (they are also the only one). They are back at TACAW to prove their sold-out Holiday Show wasn’t simply a Christmas miracle. Consensual Improv has been a valley tradition since 2016. They have been a regular at the Aspen Laugh Festival and shared the bill with Trevor Noah, Second City, and the late, great Norm MacDonald.

Puzzle & Pie (Jigsaw Competition)

Join us for our Second Annual Puzzle & Pie Night Out.  Get a group of friends or family together and enjoy a great Sunday night out.

  • Teams of 1-4 people have three hours to complete a 500 piece Custom Jigsaw Puzzle
  • The first team to complete the puzzle or the team with the least amount of puzzle pieces left after three hours wins a $100 chamber gift certificate to share between the team.  (2nd and 3rd place prizes TBD)
  • Pizza Pie and Soda Water provided to all teams (outside food and drink also allowed, but no alcohol)
  • Keep your custom puzzle at the end of the night
  • $40 per Team (only one team member registers for each team)
  • Teams will have their own tables spaced out around the Basketball Courts in the Gymnasium

*There is no age limit to team members, however puzzlers must have the attention span to stay focused on the puzzle the entire 3 hours.  The cost does not allow entry to any other part of the gym or access to rec toys or equipment.

 

Grand Junction Shopping Trip

Join Carbondale Parks and Rec for a day in Grand Junction. We will start with lunch downtown and then we will do drop-offs at Super Wal-Mart/Dollar Tree/Hobby Lobby, OR Ross/Michaels/Natural Grocers, OR Mesa Mall.  We will finish the day with a stop at Enstroms for treats!  No personal appointments as we are unable to accommodate them.

Where My Peeps At Scavenger Hunt

Race: Where My Peeps At?
Teams: 2-6 people (Kids welcome but clues are written for High School Level)

Timeline: 9:30am rules review, 9:45am race starts, 11am final check in, 11:15 prize announcements
Cost: $40 per team (only the team captain needs to register)

This scavenger hunt will have teams racing around downtown Carbondale on foot completing tasks and solving clues to find different items.  Prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place teams, 1st, 2nd, 3rd place costumes, and finding the Golden Peep.

Teams: 2-6 kids 7 years and under (at least one adult supervisor per team)

Kids hunt for an easter basket then use photo clues to find one of each item on the list to fill their basket.  All teams guaranteed one easter basket to share and photos with the Easter Bunny.

 

Aspen Art Museum and Powers Art Center

Date: April 29, 2023

Time: 9am-4pm

Join us for a trip to the Aspen Art Museum to see their latest exhibits including Jeffrey Gibson: THE SPIRITS ARE LAUGHING.  Bring money for lunch in the Museum Cafe, or out and about in Aspen.  We will then go to the Powers Art Center to view American Pop Art: an exhibit featuring works from: Robert Rauschenberg, Tom Wesselmann, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, James Rosenquist and Claes Oldenburg; and JASPER JOHNS: “THINGS THE MIND ALREADY KNOWS”: an exhibit featuring six decades of Jasper Johns works on paper.
