SilverSneakers Fitness Program

The SilverSneakers Fitness Program offers a unique blend of physical activity, healthy lifestyle and socially oriented programming that enables older adults to take greater control of their health. It is available at no additional cost to individuals who belong to a participating Insurance Plan. Please call the Front Desk at 970.510.1292.

  • A FREE membership at Carbondale’s Recreation & Community Center with access to conditioning classes, exercise equipment, pool, and other amenities that accompany the basic membership
  • Access to any participating fitness center throughout the U.S. while traveling
  • Customized SilverSneakers classes designed exclusively for older adults who want to improve their strength, flexibility, balance and endurance
  • Health education seminars and other events that promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle
  • A specially trained Senior Advisor at the fitness center to introduce you to SilverSneakers and acquaint you with their site & equipment

Taekwondo

Location: CRCC East Gym

Martial Arts classes for children & adults. Improve your balance, strength, coordination, and flexibility. Integrate body, mind, and spirit using the Taekwondo tenets: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit. Sahn Taekwondo classes are taught by Nationally and Internationally certified instructors: Ms. Cedar Rose Guelberth, 3rd Dan, & Grand Master Richard Hodder, 9th Dan. Six-month pre-registration discounts available.

McClure Pass Colors and Paonia Vineyards Tour

Time: 9am-5pm

Join us for a trip over McClure Pass! We will take in the fall colors and then continue to Paonia to have lunch and check out some of the different orchards and vineyards. Bring money for lunch. Due to popularity and special request, there are two day/date offerings!

Pickleball Tournament

Start date: September 21, 2019 - End date: September 22, 2019

Time: 9am-5pm (Start and End Times are Approximate)

Location: Darien Pickleball and Tennis Courts

Join Carbondale Recreation and the Roaring Fork Pickleball Association for this 2-day tournament. Men’s and Women’s Doubles will play on Saturday (Levels 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 available), and Mixed Doubles will play on Sunday (Levels 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 available). A t-shirt is included and lunch will be provided both days. The format will most likely include a round robin in the morning, followed by a seeded single or double-elimination tournament after lunch. Please provide partner name in the notes section during registration. The first day is $35; if you are playing both days it is an additional $10 (select the Second Day option during registration and please include both your partner’s name and your division/skill level–i.e. John Smith, Mixed Doubles, 3.5).

Jams, Jellies, and Fruit Spreads Cooking Class

Date: September 30, 2019

Location: CRCC Activity Room and Kitchen

Learn how to make and preserve flavorful summer fruits or an amazing pepper jelly.  Covers water bath canning basics to ensure safe preservation. Classes are taught by the CSU Extension Program.

Oktoberfest

Date: October 12, 2019

Location: 4th Street Plaza

Willkommen! Time to dust off last year’s stein and fill it full with this year’s beer. Oktoberfest kicks off at 12pm Saturday, October 12th, and promises to be a day full of fun with German music, food, and beer. Half and full-liter steins available while supplies last—get yours before it’s gone! Test your merit at Liter Holding and Nail Driving, and don’t forget to secure your spot in the Annual Cornhole Tournament (must pre-register online or at the CRCC).

Volunteers are needed for checking IDs, monitoring the entrance/exit, and manning the zero waste stations. Shifts run in two hour increments:

Friday: 5-7pm, 7-9pm and Saturday 12pm-2pm, 2-4pm, 4-6pm, 6-9pm

Oktoberfest at the Glenwood Caverns

Date: October 19, 2019

Time: 1-5pm

Enjoy a tram ride up to the Caverns for some Oktoberfest fun including live music by Alpine Echo.

Canning Pie Filling

Date: October 28, 2019

Pie fillings are an excellent way to preserve an abundance of fruit.  Learn current research-based recommendations for making great pie fillings that can be water bath processed safely.  Classes are taught by the CSU Extension Program.

Fall 3.5 Pickleball Ladder League – 5 Week Series

Start date: November 17, 2019 - End date: December 15, 2019

Time: 5-7pm

Location: CRCC Gymnasium

Level of play: 3.5 only
Format (this will be different from the summer series): There will be lots of movement up and down on this ladder with 8 games guaranteed each week! Scores of each individual player will
be recorded and accumulated to determine weekly winners and series overall winners. Games will be to 11 (win by one) or 13 minutes max. Ladder Captain: Cilla Dickinson

Cooking Under Pressure Mediterranean Style
