Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays: Mah Jongg

The SilverSneakers Fitness Program offers a unique blend of physical activity, healthy lifestyle and socially oriented programming that enables older adults to take greater control of their health. It is available at no additional cost to individuals who belong to a participating Insurance Plan. Please call the Front Desk at 970.510.1292.

  • A FREE membership at Carbondale’s Recreation & Community Center with access to conditioning classes, exercise equipment, pool, and other amenities that accompany the basic membership
  • Access to any participating fitness center throughout the U.S. while traveling
  • Customized SilverSneakers classes designed exclusively for older adults who want to improve their strength, flexibility, balance and endurance
  • Health education seminars and other events that promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle
  • A specially trained Senior Advisor at the fitness center to introduce you to SilverSneakers and acquaint you with their site & equipment

Silver and Fit Logo

The Silver&Fit exercise and healthy aging program is provided by American Specialty Health. It’s designed specifically for older adults. You may get access to Silver&Fit as a Medicare beneficiary through many insurance companies’ Medicare Advantage and Supplement plans.

Certain Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans include the Silver&Fit program as a benefit. Some people may also get access through a group retirement health plan.

You must meet at least one of these criteria to be eligible for Silver&Fit:

  • You are age 65 or older.
  • You are currently enrolled in Medicare.

To find out if you’re eligible, visit this online Silver&Fit eligibility check. You’ll need accept the Terms and Conditions, then enter your first name, last name, and birth date. If you’re an eligible Silver&Fit program member, follow the steps to enroll online.

Renew Active is available at no additional cost, exclusively from UnitedHealthcare® Medicare Plans.

Renew Active is a fitness program for body and mind designed to help people live their best lives and achieve their health and wellness goals. It provides access to an extensive choice of more than 6,000 fitness locations, including national, regional and local options, at no additional cost.

Indoor Cycling

Start date: December 3, 2019 - End date: March 26, 2020

Time: 7-8am, 12-1pm, or 6-7pm

Location: CRCC Lobby and Outdoor Fitness Area

Build up your cardiovascular fitness with indoor cycling! Join cycling instructors Valerie Gilliam (7am & 6pm), Kae McDonald (12pm), and James Gilliam (6pm) to build your aerobic base over the winter months! Cycling specific workouts use the following
energy zones: endurance, strength through hill climbs, high intensity intervals, and race day. Learn the importance of recovery. All levels welcome!

Days: Tuesdays & Thursdays
Dates: Session 3 – February 4 – 27; Session 4 – March 3 – 26
Cost: $68 per 4 week session at a specific class time; $11 daily drop in with prior approval from instructor; based on bike availability

Please arrive early so you can get set up on your bike properly before the beginning of class. Please let your instructor know if you will miss a class.

Golden Paddle Pickleball League

Start date: February 16, 2020 - End date: April 5, 2020

Time: 5-8pm

Location: CRCC Gymnasium

This league will compete for 8 weeks. Each week you will have the opportunity to play 5 doubles matches to 11 with a randomly selected partner. Point totals will be recorded for every individual player. The male and female with the highest point totals will be our champions and take home our coveted “Golden Paddle” trophies!

Bingo at Redstone Inn

Join Carbondale Parks and Recreation for an exciting evening in Redstone. We’ll have dinner at the Redstone Inn, and then enjoy some bingo to cap off the evening. Bring money for dinner and bingo!

Milling Grains and Making Bread

In this class, you will learn how to mill flours from different grains. We will then learn how to turn this flour into bread for dinner.

Grand Junction Mall

Location: Van will pick up/drop off at the Carbondale Recreation and Community Center, Crystal Meadows Commons IV, and Manor II in GWS

Join the Carbondale Recreation Department for a day at the Grand Junction Mall. You can do some shopping, have lunch, or just enjoy a day out.

Overcoming the Fear of Pressure Cooking

Learn how a pressure canner works as we walk through each step involved in safely canning vegetables, meats, and seafood. (optional: Bring your canner lid for testing of the dial gauge).

Where My Peeps At Scavenger Hunt

Date: April 11, 2020

Time: 8:30am

Location: Sopris Park

We love to keep this race interesting and different. This year all teams will cover a different 2 mile course than last year. This course will be fun and challenging for all age levels. There will be 50 easy Peeps made out of chalk for the little ones to fine to add bonus points. There will be photos to recreate the photo with your team. This is challenging for all ages.

New this year we will have one Golden Peep that is a grand prize for a team to have first crack at the Give Away Table. As always we will have prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams, and the team with the Best Costume. All of this will be followed by a giveaway full of prizes donated by local businesses.

Downtown Grand Junction & Museum of the West

Date: April 17, 2020

Time: 9:00am-5:00pm

Join the Carbondale Recreation Department as we explore the Wild West! We’ll enjoy lunch and antique shops on Main Street in Downtown. Then drive to the Museum of the West for exploration. Exhibits include: Native Americans, Spanish Exploration, antique firearms, uranium mine, and many more!
