Light Up Carbondale First Friday December 4, 2020

What has 6 miles of wire, 682 rolls and strands, and 30,000 individual lights? What has Santa and his elves coming into the neighborhood playing your favorite holiday tunes into the dark night? What will cause the bearded man in the red suit to land his sleigh in Carbondale amidst the illuminated  and beautiful trees in town?  It can only be the annual “Light Up Carbondale” Event.  The Town of Carbondale Recreation Department, Carbondale Arts, Carbondale Fire District and the Carbondale Chamber First Friday Committee would like to invite children and adults of all ages to help “Light up Carbondale” with their singing voices and smiles and to welcome Santa to town. “Light Up” Carbondale takes place on First Friday, December 4, 2020.

A global pandemic will not stop Santa from coming to town and magically bringing brightness to our annual Light Up Carbondale celebration.  Since we are unable to congregate in large groups this year, we will be bringing Santa and his horse drawn sleigh to you!  Santa will travel on a prescribed route throughout town from 5-7pm with some of his elves. When he comes by your house be ready to sing along and turn on your holiday lights.

If you have young ones, make sure they have their wish list letters to Santa ready. Santa’s Mailbox will be following Santa’s Sleigh on a bike trailer and it is a perfect time for the little ones to put their letter in the mailbox, under the watch full eye of the big man himself. If you have been a good little boy or girl, let Santa know what you would like for Christmas. Write a letter or draw a picture and address it to Santa at the North Pole. Drop it off at Santa’s mailbox.  Make sure to sign your name and address so Santa can write back! Don’t worry if you miss the roaming mail box ,there will be locations for Santa’s mail boxes at The Launchpad, First Bank and The Carbondale Recreation & Community Center. Make sure to get your letters in by December 18.

The map of the route that Santa and his elves will take through Town will be available on the Carbondale Parks & Recreation website and Facebook page and will be published in the local papers, so you can gauge their arrival time.

Sweeten your First Friday by picking up a FREE goodie bag filled with locally-made Pollinator Chocolate hot cocoa mix and other fun surprises.  Random goodie bags will also include gift cards to Carbondale retail and restaurants, and one lucky goodie bag will have a grand prize of a $200 gift certificate to Independence Run & Hike!  Pick up your goodie bag December 1-4 at the Carbondale Rec Center, the Launchpad, or FirstBank.  One goodie bag per person, 500 bags total, while supplies last.  This shop local effort made possible thanks to the gracious support from FirstBank.

Every holiday season, Carbondale Arts transforms the R2 Gallery into a shop filled with artisanal goods which make up the annual Deck the Walls holiday market and the Launchpad will be open for evening hours on First Friday, December 4.  There will be many new guidelines in order to keep everyone as safe as possible, but we hope to be able to have another successful year supporting our local artisans. Only 8 shoppers allowed at once.

Enjoy the season,  all of the lights, and stroll around to the many shops, restaurants & art galleries that are part of the First Friday “Light Up” Carbondale Events.
