Potato Day

The Carbondale Annual Potato Day theme for 2022 is “Marble Mash” celebrating the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial, which was made of Yule Marble from the Crystal Valley.  In honor of the skilled sculptors of Marble, Colorado, we’re hosting an online potato sculpting contest. Winners will receive Carbondale Chamber Gift Certificates good at dozens of businesses around town.

Using a spoon for safety, carve the potato into one of four categories listed below. Take a picture of your creation and post it to the Carbondale Annual Potato Day Facebook Page or share on Instagram with #CarbondalePotatoDay with the following information:

Deadline for entry is 8pm on Thursday, September 29th.  Adult and Child winners will be chosen in each category and will be contacted on Friday, September 30th to receive their prize in person at Potato Day on October 1st, or have it mailed.

8-10am: Carbondale Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast (4th Street Plaza Park)–$10
9am: “Tater Trot” Ross Montessori 1-Mile Fun Run (Registration 8-8:45am, Start and Finish on 4th street)–FREE
9am: Cowboy Coffee in Sopris Park
9am: Farmers & Artisan Market opens in Sopris Park
10:30am: Potato Day Parade on Main Street (theme: Marble Mash Celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the Lincoln Memorial )
11am – 1pm: Rosybelle Bus with Kids’ Crafts
11:15am: Statue Contest (prizes for winners!)
11:30am – 1pm: Live Music from Gazebo (Pam and Dan)
11:30am – 1:30pm: BBQ and Baked Potato Lunch (Nieslanik Beef and potatoes from Sustainable Settings, Highwater Farm, and the Gianinettis)–$15/adults and $10/kids 12 and under
1pm: Announcements of Parade Winners and Potato Sculpting Contest Winners
1:05pm: Old-Fashioned Traditional Potato Day Games at Carbondale Historical Society Booth
1:15 – 3pm: Live Music (Hell Roaring String Band)

Turkey Trot

Date: November 24, 2022

Time: 8am

Earn that Thanksgiving turkey! Join Carbondale Parks and Recreation Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 24 for a 5K Walk/Run and 1 Lap Fun Walk/Run. This race is for all ages and very non-competitive. We encourage costumes, fun, and families. Prizes for first, last, and middle 5K racers. The grand prize will go to the middle place 5K racer.

Letters to Santa

Start date: November 29, 2022 - End date: December 20, 2022

Location: Carbondale Recreation Center

If you have been a good little boy or girl, let Santa know what you would like for Christmas. Write a letter or draw a picture and address it to Santa at the North Pole. Drop it off at Santa’s Mailbox at the Carbondale Recreation and Community Center from December 1-December 20. Make sure to sign your name and address so Santa can write back!

Light Up Carbondale

Date: December 2, 2022

Time: 5:00pm-8:00pm

Location: The Launchpad, 4th Street Plaza, and Main Street

The Town of Carbondale Parks and Rec Department along with Carbondale Arts invites everyone to light up Carbondale and welcome Santa.

Holiday festivities continue at 4th & Main Street with free hot cocoa, cider, and sugar cookies at The Orchard tent (cookies courtesy of Alpine Bank, while supplies last) and free sleigh rides with Santa 5:45pm – 7:45pm (line up at 4th & Main street).

Be sure to check out the Deck the Walls Artisan Market inside the Launch Pad and do some Christmas shopping!
